Baptism

Baptism

Since Baptism is not merely a naming ceremony for your child, but rather a welcoming of each new Christian into our parish community, these are very much community celebrations. To enrol your child for Baptism please call into the Parish Office call 099 20838 or email aranislesparish@gmail.com

Congratulations!

Congratulations on the birth of your child! The Parish Community shares in your joy. Thank you for wanting to have your baby join the family of the Church through Baptism.

Time for Celebration and Joy!

We want to help plan and prepare for your child’s baptism so that the occasion adds to the sense of celebration and joy that a new baby brings to a family. Through baptism, your child is a new baby in the family of the parish and the universal Church – the family of God.

Your Faith is Important

Your most important preparation is to look at your own faith. Your baby will be born with your features and will pick up your mannerisms. As he or she gets older your child will grow up, too, with your faith. That is why, when you approach the church about having your child baptised you will be encouraged to think through your own faith and the part it plays in your life. The very fact that you have asked to have your baby baptised shows that you recognise the importance of God in your life. From the earliest days, children too young to answer for themselves have been baptised, usually as they accompanied their parents into the Church. For the church recognises the desire of Christian parents to share the life of Christ with their children. Jesus Christ, like you, wants the best for your child.

Growing in God’s Love

Your efforts will not only help your baby to grow up in the love of God: they will also help you to grow. As you teach your child to pray you yourself will deepen your prayer; as you teach your child to appreciate the Mass your own faith will be enriched. Your baby’s baptism is only the beginning of a new life in which you will grow closer to one another in the family and closer to God. The Church welcomes your child into its midst with love and prayers for the future peace and happiness of your family in the years ahead.

Sign of the Cross

A sign on something shows its origins or ownership. The sign of the cross is the mark of Christians for Jesus Christ died on the cross. Parents and god-parents trace it on the child’s forehead to show that the baby belongs to Christ, who now offers his help and grace to face and overcome the sufferings of life.

Water

This is for cleansing and is a sign that our sins are washed away. Baptism cleanses us of original sin with which we are all born and, in the baptism of adults, of every sin committed prior to baptism. Water is also necessary for life and so is a sign, too, that the life of the risen Christ is ours.

Oils

Oil of Baptism is olive oil rubbed on the breast of the baby, just as athletes used to rub themselves with oil to strengthen and prepare for the fight ahead. Oil of Chrism is a mixture of olive oil and balsam (sweet-smelling ointment) and is rubbed on the crown of the head. It is a sign of sealing with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The profession of faith which you make on behalf of your child at baptism will later be confirmed personally by your child in the sacrament of confirmation when Oil of Chrism will be used again. The oils are blessed by the bishop around the time of Maundy (or Holy) Thursday.

White Garment

This garment (usually a white shawl) is a relic of the new clothes worn by Christians after baptism in the first centuries. It is a sign of innocence and the new life of resurrection.

Candles

These symbolise Christ – the Light of the World. The baptismal candle is lit from the paschal candle, which stands near the altar at Easter as a sign of the risen Christ. The baptismal candle reminds us that the light of Christ has entered the child’s life, and its flame symbolises the flame of faith which will burn through the life of your child.

Baptismal Register

Your baby’s baptism will be recorded in the parish Baptismal Register. In the years ahead proof of baptism may be obtained in form of a certificate issued on the basis of this registration. Your child’s confirmation, marriage or ordination will also be noted alongside this entry in the register.

Baisteadh

Ó tharla go bhfuil níos mó sa mBaisteadh ná searmanas d’ainmniú do pháiste, mar gur fáiltiú roimh chuile Chríostaí nua isteach i bpobal an pharóiste atá i gceist leo, is ócáidí ceiliúrtha pobail iad. Le do pháiste a chlárú don Bhaisteadh buail isteach ag Oifig an Pharóiste, Teil: 099 20838 nó r-phost aranislesparish@gmail.com

Comhghairdeachas!

Comhghairdeachas ar bhreith bhur bpáiste! Tá Pobal an Pharóiste lúcháireach daoibh. Go raibh maith agaibh as a bheith ag iarraidh go mbeadh bhur leanbh ina mball den Eaglais tríd an mBaisteadh.

Am le Ceiliúradh agus Lúcháir!

Ba mhaith linn cuidiú libh pleanáil agus ullmhú do bhaisteadh bhur bpáiste le go gcuirfidh an ócáid le haoibhneas agus le ceiliúradh an teaghlaigh a dtagann leanbh nua isteach ann. Tríd an mbaisteadh is leanbh nua do pháiste i gclann an pharóiste agus san Eaglais Uilíoch – clann Dé.

Tá do Chreideamh Tábhachtach

Is é an réiteach is tábhachtaí atá romhat ná breathnú ar do chreideamh féin. Beidh dreach a dhream ar an leanbh nuabheirthe agus déanfaidh siad aithris ar bhur nósmhaireachtaí. De réir mar a théann do pháiste in aois fásfaidh siad freisin sa gcreideamh atá agaibhse. Sin é an fáth, nuair a fhéachann sibh le bhur bpáiste a bhaisteadh, go spreagtar sibh le machnamh a dhéanamh ar bhur gcreideamh féin agus ar an bpáirt atá aige in bhur saol. De bhrí gur iarr sibh go mbaistfí bhur bpáiste is léiriú ann féin é sin go n-aithníonn sibh tábhacht Dé in bhur saol. Le fada an lá bhíothas ag baisteadh páistí a bhíodh ró-óg le labhairt dóibh féin, de ghnáth bhídís i bhfochair a dtuismitheoirí ag dul isteach sa Séipéal. Sin mar go n-aithníonn an Eaglais mian tuismitheoirí Críostaí saol Chríost a roinnt lena bpáistí. Ar nós sibh fhéin tá Íosa Críost ag iarraidh an rud is fearr do bhur bpáiste.

Ag Fás i nGrá Dé

Cuideoidh bhur n-iarrachtaí le fás bhur leanbh i ngrá Dé, agus cuideoidh siad libhse fás freisin. Nuair a mhúineann tú guí do do pháiste láidríonn tú do ghuí féin, nuair a mhúineann tú ómós don Aifreann do do pháiste saibhríonn tú do chreideamh féin. Is tús saol nua é baisteadh do leanbh, saol ina n-éireoidh sibh níos gaire dá chéile sa teaghlach agus níos gaire do Dhia. Fáiltíonn an Eaglais roimh do pháiste isteach ina chroílár le grá, agus le paidreacha do shíocháin agus do shonas i do theaghlach sna blianta atá ag teacht.

Comhartha na Croise

Ciallaíonn comhartha ar rud a bhunús nó úinéireacht. Is é marc na gCríostaithe ná comhartha na croise mar gur bhásaigh Íosa Críost ar an gcrois. Tarraingíonn na tuismitheoirí agus na carais Chríost an comhartha seo ar bhaithis an pháiste le taispeáint gur leanbh le Críost é, atá anois ag ofráil a chúnamh agus a ghrásta don pháiste le  tabhairt faoi agus leis an gceann is fearr a fháil ar fhulaingt an tsaoil.

Uisce

Luaitear an t-uisce le glanadh agus is comhartha é go bhfuil ár bpeacaí glanta. Beirtear muid uilig le peaca an tsinsir ach glanann an baisteadh dínn é, agus i gcás baisteadh daoine fásta, glantar chuile pheaca a déanadh roimh a mbaisteadh. Teastaíonn uisce freisin do shaol na beatha agus mar sin is comhartha freisin é gur linne saol Chríost atá aiséirithe.

Olaí

Is ola olóige é Ola an Bhaiste a chuimlítear ar chliabhrach an pháiste, díreach mar a chuimlíodh lúthchleasaithe ola orthu féin á láidriú agus a réiteach féin don iarracht rompu. Is meascán atá san ola Chriosma d’ola olóige agus ola bhalsaim (ungadh cumhra) agus cuimlítear é ar an mbaithis. Is comhartha é ar shéalú le bronntanais an Spioraid Naoimh. Beidh an admháil chreidimh a dhéanann sibhse ar son bhur bpáiste á dhearbhú arís go pearsanta ag an bpáiste i sacraimint an chóineartaithe nuair a úsáidfear an Ola Chriosma arís. Beannaíonn an tEaspag na holaí thart ar Dhéardaoin Mandála nó Déardaoin Beannaithe.

Éadach Bán

Seasann an t-éadach seo (seál bán de ghnáth) don éadach nua a chaitheadh na Críostaithe i ndiaidh a mbaiste sna chéad aoiseanna. Is comhartha ar shoineantacht é agus ar shaol nua an aiséirí.

Coinnle

Is siombail de Chríost – Solas an Domhain - iad na coinnle seo. Lastar coinneal an bhaiste as coinneal na Cásca, a bhíonn in aice na haltóra ag an gCáisc, mar chomhartha ar aiséirí Chríost. Meabhraíonn coinneal an bhaiste dúinn go bhfuil solas Chríost anois ina chuid de shaol an pháiste agus seasann an lasair do lasair an chreidimh a bheidh ag dó leis trí shaol an pháiste.

Clár an Bhaiste

Beidh taifead de bhaisteadh do leanbh i gClár Baiste an pharóiste. Sna blianta atá le theacht féadfar fianaise faoin mbaisteadh a fháil i bhfoirm teastais a eiseofar bunaithe ar an gclárú seo. Is le taobh na hiontrála seo sa gclár a dhéanfar nóta freisin de chóineartú, pósadh nó oirniú do pháiste.
